HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
The first several minutes of the match were played largely in the midfield as the sides were settling into the match. Lipscomb recorded the first shot of the match in the 10' minute when
Malachi Jones one-touched a shot off a corner kick, but his shot went high.Â
Â
Lipscomb got on the board in the 12' minute when the squad launched a counter attack from in front of its goal. Charlotte had a look at goal, but
William Bryan dispossessed the defender and the ball was played to a streaking
Malachi Jones. With space, he dribbled up the pitch and found Smith on the left side who put his shot just inside the far post for a 1-0 Lipscomb lead, marking the first goal the 49ers have conceded this season.Â
Â
The Bisons had another opportunity in the 23' minute when Smith was taken down in the box and a penalty was awarded. The keeper guessed the wrong way but the shot went wide of the post, keeping the score 1-0 in favor of the Bisons.Â
Â
Charlotte had what was building to be a dangerous attack in the 26' minute and put a cross in front of the goal, but
Juan Carlos Rodriguez came off his line and punched the ball away from danger.Â
Â
Lipscomb had another promising attack in the 44' minute when
Tyrese Spicer won a long ball from the Lipscomb back line and sped past his defender. Unable to get a good angle on goal, he put the ball in front of the goal, but the Charlotte keeper was there to spoil the play.Â
Â
Charlotte fought back with a promising opportunity in the final 30 seconds of the first frame, but their shots were blocked by the Bisons' back line and Lipscomb defended its 1-0 lead heading into the second half.Â
Â
The 49ers came out on the front foot in the second half and gave the Bisons' defense all it could handle. In the 46' minute, Rodriguez made an impressive fingertip save to keep Charlotte of the board.Â
Â
Charlotte, however, kept the ball in its attacking third for the next couple of minutes and scored goals in the 51' minute and 52' minute to take a 2-1 lead.Â
Â
In the 78' minute, Lipscomb won the ball in the midfield and
Ploutarchos Alonefti dribbled into the box where
Tyrese Spicer got a shot off at the near post. The ball was deflected out for a corner and Alonefti put in great service but Charlotte defended the attack to keep its lead.Â
Â
The Bisons didn't give up and broke through yet again in the 85' minute.
Nick Dang played a ball from the back to the head of Jones who flicked the ball to the feet of Spicer on the left wing. Spicer then got the ball to his left foot and banged a rocket into the top corner of the net, tying the match 2-2.Â
Â
Each team searched for the go-ahead goal during the final five minutes, but the match ended in a 2-2 stalemate.Â
