Bisons Claim 4-3 Victory Over Blazers in Season Opener, Aid Tallies 100th Win as Head Coach

Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb women's tennis opened their 2024 season with a home match against the UAB Blazers. The Bisons emerged victorious after tallying four singles wins to claim their first win over the Blazers since 2019 and tallying head coach Jamie Aid's 100^th career win as the Bisons head coach.

Saturday's match got underway quickly with the Bisons claiming victory first in doubles play on court three as Mariya Dolzhenko and Sofiia Paladi earned a 6-0 victory over their opponents. The Blazers bounced back quickly and took the wins on courts one and two over the pairings of Sasha Dobranos and Anja Trbeznik as well as Rut Galindo and Deborah Dominguez Collado to secure the doubles point.

The Bisons found a higher gear in singles play and Dolzhenko opened the singles scoring with a 6-0, 6-1 victory on court four to put Lipscomb on the board. The Blazers took the lead once more when Galindo fell 3-6, 2-6 on court three.

Dominguez Collado was the next Bison on the board, claiming a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 5 spot in her first dual match for the Bisons. Paladi claimed the Bisons' next win on court No. 3 as she battled to a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) win over her UAB opponent.

Sonia Pieczynska and Sasha Dobranos were the final two competing in the match as they took their respective Blazer foes to three sets. Dobranos clinched the Bisons' win with her 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win at the top spot but UAB claimed the final point of the match when Pieczynska fell to her opponent on court six (4-6, 6-1, 4-6).

The Bisons' win for their first match of the season clinched head coach Jamie Aid's 100^th career win as head coach since she took over the program prior to the 2013-14 season.
