THE SHORT STORY
Behind a career-high 38 points from Derrin Boyd, Lipscomb Men's Basketball charged to a 98-72 victory in an important road game over FGCU Thursday night in Fort Myers, Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lipscomb got on the board first with an Owen McCormack triple, but the squads battled back-and-forth for the first minutes as the game was tied 7-7 at the first media timeout.

Out of the break, FGCU scored four unanswered, but Cody Head got on the board with a fancy up-and-under move and Derrin Boyd nailed a triple that spurred a bout of Lipscomb offense. Over the next two minutes, the Bisons went on a 12-2 run for a 19-13 lead, forcing an FGCU timeout.

FGCU cut Lipscomb's lead in half with a three-pointer, but the Bisons continued to stay ahead of the Eagles as both squads were firing at a high clip offensively.

FGCU had the first points out of the break, but Boyd responded with a triple on the other end, giving him 17 points already in the game. The Eagles, however, scrapped its way back in with a 7-0 run and tied the game 43-43 at the 17:16 mark of the second half.

Lipscomb responded in a big way with an 11-1 run over the next minute and a half, capped off by back-to-back triples by Boyd for its first double-digit lead of the night, forcing FGCU's third timeout of the night.

The Bisons continued to execute effectively on the offensive end and AJ McGinnis heated up from behind the arc with back-to-back triples, giving Lipscomb its largest lead of the night, 64-50 with 12:47 left on the clock.

After draining eight of its last eight field goal attempts, the Bisons held a 66-52 lead at the under-12 media timeout of the second half.

Boyd made it nine-straight makes out of the timeout for the Bisons with a bucket, connecting for a new career-high, 27 points, with a driving layup.

The shooting continued as the Bisons got contributions from all positions on the floor with a larger lineup in for the Purple and Gold.

Things didn't slow down for Lipscomb and Boyd continued to lead the way as he got to 30 points on the night with his sixth triple of the night and an 88-66 lead with just under four minutes to play.

The Bisons rolled on to a decisive 98-72 victory on the road. Boyd was the start of the night finishing with 38 points, going 14-19 from the floor, 8-11 from three-point range and 2-2 from the charity stripe.
