Jalyn Holcomb's game winning layup, the Lipscomb University women's basketball team picked up a 62-61 victory over East Tennessee State University, Friday night inside Allen Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons got out to an 8-3 advantage after an
Ainhoa Cea driving layup with 5:34 left in the period.
ETSU used a 7-0 run to lead 10-8 at the media timeout, but
Elena Bertrand made it a 13-12 lead with less than a minute remaining in the period.
However, it was the Bucs that had a 14-13 lead after a Kaylee Carson jumper.
East Tennessee State and Lipscomb went back-and-forth in the second quarter, but the Bisons took the 26-25 lead at the half thanks to a Bertrand steal and
Claira McGowan jump shot in the paint.
Lipscomb, in the third quarter, took a five-point lead with 2:36 remaining in the period with a McGowan layup, but the Bucs came back and tied it up at 41 with a minute remaining.
The Bisons responded with back-to-back field goals after a Vinson layup and a Cea fast break layup at the end of the period off a late turnover and steal.
In the fourth, McGowan scored off a turnover with 6:23 left to lead 54-47. The Bucs did respond and took a one-point lead, 59-58, with 1:36 remaining on a layup by Meghan Downing.
Jalyn Holcomb came through in the clutch not once, but twice. After a driving layup off a turnover with 43 seconds remaining with a 60-59 lead. However the Bucs, on the other end, drew a foul, as Braylyn Milton went two-for-two at the charity stripe to lead 60-59 with 14 seconds remaining.
After a Lipscomb timeout to bring the ball to the front court, Holcomb drove the baseline for the jump shot with four seconds remaining to lead 62-61.
A long jump shot by ETSU's Milton was missed and the second chance attempt by the Bucs did not get off in time for the win.

KEY STATISTICS
Claira McGowan led the Bisons with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting with six rebounds and two steals.
Bella Vinson dropped 7-of-18 from the floor for 16 total points and added two thefts.
HERD NOTES
Lipscomb improves to 4-1 on the season and it matches the best start for the Bisons since the 2020-21 season.
The Bisons have won the last two games against ETSU since the rivalry was renewed in 2023.

The Bisons will make its first "true" road game following playing their first five games in the Nashville metro. Lipscomb will make the trek to Morehead State on Sunday afternoon.
