THE SHORT STORY
A hot second half led Lipscomb to a 77-53 victory over Jackson State on Sunday afternoon.
Jacob Ognacevic had a team-high 16 points while
Gyasi Powell contributed 13 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb shot poorly out of the gate, but its defense kept Jackson State from getting many good shots and Lipscomb led 8-6 at the first media timeout.
The Bisons continued to shoot under 30-percent from the floor at the second media timeout, but were able to keep a slight advantage. Out of the break, Lipscomb began to better execute offensively and held a 22-16 lead at the under-eight media timeout.
Lipscomb's continued to struggle with its shooting through the final minutes of the first frame, but the Bisons overcame it and held a 30-24 advantage at the half.
Out of the halftime locker room, the Bisons outscored JSU 10-4 to get out to a 38-28 advantage at the 15:46 mark of the second half.
Out of the media timeout, Lipscomb went on a 11-4 run that opened up a 49-32 Lipscomb lead. The Bisons greatly picked up its shooting pace over the next several minutes and pushed out to a 70-49 advantage at the final media timeout of the half.
Out of the final media timeout, Lipscomb continued on a 7-0 run that saw the largest lead of the night for the Bisons at 75-51 with 1:25 left to play.
