THE SHORT STORY
The Bisons took on No. 16 Arkansas on Wednesday night and put up a good fight, but ultimately fell 76-60 at Bud Walton Arena. Ognacevic led Lipscomb in scoring with 16 points and added six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons were strong from the opening whistle. Arkansas got out to a 6-2 lead, but Lipscomb quickly tied the game back up when
Jacob Ognacevic hit a signature turnaround jumper for a 6-6 game.
Lipscomb took its first lead, 10-8, of the night when
Grant Asman got an offensive board and put back the layup with just over 14 minutes left in the first half.
Neither team was shooting the ball particularly well, but Lipscomb held onto a 14-12 lead at the under-12 media timeout of the first half.
Out of the timeout, The Bisons increased its lead 17-12 when
Joe Anderson nailed a triple as the shot clock was winding down.
A quick, 55 second, 7-0 Arkansas run saw the Razorbacks regain a 19-17 lead that prompted a
Lennie Acuff timeout.
Out of the timeout, Arkansas forced back-to-back turnovers in the backcourt with its full-court press, extending its lead 23-17.
Charlie Williams stopped the bleeding with a much-needed triple from the top of the key to settle the Bisons.
Anderson kept Lipscomb's shooting hot with another triple, getting the deficit back down to a pair.
Turnovers continued to be a problem for the Bisons, however, and Arkansas took advantage, edging back out to a 29-23 advantage with 4:04 left in the half.
Gyasi Powell netted the next points of the game with a triple, keeping Lipscomb right on the heels of the Razorbacks.
The Razorbacks, however, utilized a 7-0 run just before the half to take a 39-28 lead into the halftime break.
Ognacevic opened the second half with a triple, cutting the lead back to single digits, but Arkansas went for of their next five for a 47-36 lead at the first media timeout of the second half.
The Razorbacks caught fire offensively, hitting shots at a high clip over the next several minutes as Lipscomb looked at a 60-45 deficit with 11:10 left in the matchup.
The Bisons cut the lead 60-52 out of the media timeout when
Will Pruitt and
Logan Suber both made big buckets, finishing through contact and converting on resulting free throws.
Lipscomb's run continued with a second-chance bucket from
Rylan Houck, further cutting into the lead, 60-54, and forcing a John Calipari timeout.
The Bisons continued to put pressure on Arkansas, getting an offensive board that Suber took advantage of with a deep two, cutting the deficit 60-56.
Arkansas, however, bounced back with a 12-1 run that saw its lead balloon back out to 72-57.
Lipscomb fought to the end, but ultimately dropped a 76-60 decision at Arkansas.
