THE SHORT STORY
A well-rounded team performance led Lipscomb to an 80-62 victory over Chattanooga on Tuesday evening at McKenzie Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the squads traded buckets to open the game, Lipscomb went on a 7-0 run to open an early 9-2 advantage.
Chattanooga, however, punched back with a pair of triples, shaving the Lipscomb lead 9-8 before Joe Anderson quieted the Mocs with a trey of his own.
Anderson was on fire early for the Bisons, with 10 points by the nine-minute mark of the first half. At the floating media timeout with 8:46 left in the frame, Lipscomb held a 24-20 advantage.
Out of the timeout, Lipscomb scored the next two buckets for a 28-20 advantage.
The Bisons went scoreless for the next several minutes which allowed the Mocs to tie the game at 28-all with 3:50 to go in the half, prompting a Lennie Acuff timeout.
The final minutes of the half were fast-paced with both squads connecting at a high clip.
Anderson scored with 3.5 ticks left on the halftime clock, which gave the Bisons a 38-33 advantage heading into the locker room.
Out of the halftime break, Lipscomb outscored the Mocs 7-2 to open up a 45-35 advantage, capped of by a Jacob Ognacevic triple, to force a Chattanooga timeout.
Out of the timeout, Lipscomb continued to fire, extending for its largest lead of the night, 53-37, that forced yet another Mocs timeout.
The squads traded punches over the next several minutes, but Lipscomb kept a 63-48 lead at the under-12, second-half media.
Chattanooga crept back in, cutting the Lipscomb lead to 11, but the Bisons responded well and got back out to a 69-52 advantage, aided by the help of a pair of buckets by Gyasi Powell, with 7:24 left in regulation.
The Bisons never let off the gas and saw out an 80-62 victory on Tuesday night.
