Men’s Tennis Stumbles in Heartbreaker Against Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Lipscomb men's tennis continued on their string of road games Sunday morning as they traveled to Jacksonville, Ala. for a showdown with the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. The Bisons fell 1-6 in the matchup with Krzysztof Wetoszka claiming the point for the Purple and Gold with his fifth singles win of the season.
 
Lipscomb's squad fought hard against the Gamecocks in doubles play but Jacksonville State flexed their home court advantage to claim a 6-3 win over Krzysztof Wetoszka and Sebastian Dominguez on court one and a 6-4 win over Henrique Ushizima and Carlos Salas Tulla on court three to claim the doubles point.
 
Facundo Perlov and Juan Lombisano were tied 6-6 in their matchup with their doubles opponents on court two when the doubles point was decided and their match was halted, but their battle continued on into singles play as all but one of the singles matches were decided in three sets.
 
Ushizima brought the battle to his opponent on court three as he pushed to a tiebreak in the very first set, but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 to his Jacksonville State for on court three and the Gamecocks went up 2-0 in the contest. Sebastian Dominguez put up a strong fight on court two, recovering from a first set loss to force a third set before falling 3-6, 7-5, 0-6 to his foe on court two.
 
Antoine Testaud made his debut with the Bisons Sunday morning and put up an impressive fight at the No. 6 spot before he too was bested 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 by his Jacksonville State opponent.
 
Krzysztof Wetoszka claimed a dramatic comeback win for the Bisons at the top spot to hold off a sweep from the Gamecocks, claiming a 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) victory to mark his fifth singles win of the season in seven matches.
 
Matheus Lima delivered an incredible performance for the squad on court four, forcing his opponent into a tiebreak in their third set before ultimately falling 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 (6-8) to his opponent. Facundo Perlov undertook the squad's fifth third-set singles match of the contest, dropping a 6-3, 4-6, 3-6 match to his opponent on court five and sealing the Gamecocks' 6-1 win over the Bisons.
 
UP NEXT
Lipscomb's squad will look to turn their luck around as they return to Music City for a two-match gameday on Friday, Feb. 23rd. The Bisons will first host UT Southern at 9:00am CT before taking a trip uptown to square off against Vanderbilt at 7:00pm CT.
