Men’s Tennis Splits Friday Results


NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb men's tennis undertook a pair of matches on Friday, welcoming the UT Southern Firehawks to the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center for their 2024 home opener before heading up the road to face off with the Vanderbilt Commodores in their second match of the day. The Bisons swept the Firehawks 7-0 before falling 0-7 to the 'Dores for a split set of results.
 
GAME 1: LIPSCOMB 7, UT SOUTHERN 0
The Bisons opened the match with a decisive doubles showing, collecting all three double wins. Sebastian Dominguez and Krzysztof Wetoszka earned a 6-1 win over their opponents on court one before Carlos Salas Tulla and Henrique Ushizima clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court two.
 
Juan Lombisano and Facundo Perlov battled hard with their Firehawk foes on court three and claimed a 7-6 (7-2) win over their opponents to sweep the doubles matches.
 
The Purple and Gold put the pressure on in singles play, claiming all six singles points in straight-set wins. Wetoszka opened the singles scoring with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the top spot and he was soon joined in the win column by Ushizima with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court two.
 
Facundo Perlov clinched the Bisons' match win with his 6-1, 6-2 win on court four before Matheus Lima added to the squad's tally with a 6-3, 6-1 win on court three. Carlos Salas Tulla and Antoine Testaud sealed the Bisons' win with scores of 6-4, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-2 on courts five and six respectively to clinch Lipscomb's sweep.
 
GAME 2: VANDERBILT 7, LIPSCOMB 0
The Bisons then headed uptown to take on familiar foe Vanderbilt for their second match of the day and found a daunting challenge waiting for them.
 
The Commodores tested the Bisons right out of the gate, taking an early lead after tense doubles battles with a 6-4 win over Matheus Lima and Henrique Ushizima on court three and a 7-5 win over Sebastian Dominguez and Krzysztof Wetoszka at the top spot.
 
Facundo Perlov and Carlos Salas Tulla were locked in a tiebreak battle when the point was decided and their match was halted at 6-6 (3-4) in the 'Dores favor.
 
The two squads continued to battle it out in singles play, but the 'Dores showed their strength at home as they pushed to clinch the match quickly. Lima fell 6-2, 6-1 to his opponent on court four followed by a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Ushizima on court three to put the 'Dores in clinching territory.
 
The Commodores sealed the deal shortly after with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Dominguez on court two before felling Wetoszka 6-1, 6-2 on court one to extend their lead.
 
Lipscomb's final two players took their opponents to three-set battles before ultimately falling to their foes. Perlov put up a fight before he fell 6-2, 6-7 (8-10), 1-0 (10-5) to his opponent on court five while Salas Tulla battled through a first set loss of his own before finally falling 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 1-0 (12-10) to his opponent on court six, sealing the sweep for the 'Dores.

The Bisons will be back in action Sunday, Feb. 25th as they welcome Eastern Illinois to the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center for a matchup beginning at 10:00am CT.
