NASHVILLE - Lipscomb bounced back in game two of their weekend series with Xavier (2-3), erupting for 17 runs Saturday afternoon to even the series at a game each and force a rubber match Sunday at Ken Dugan Field.
The Bisons had their most extensive inning output of the season in the first inning of this game, plating five runs in the opening frame. Austin Kelly got the scoring started for the Bisons after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in the first run home. In the following at-bat, Parks Bouck doubled to left field to score two more to put the Bisons up 3-0. Later in the order, both Jake Berg and Adam Fallon walked with the bases loaded as the Bisons went up 5-0 after the first inning.
After the Musketeers got a run back in the top of the second, Lipscomb added more runs to their lead in the bottom half, plating four more runs, one coming on a bunt single to second from Berg, to go up 9-1 after two complete innings. Lipscomb extended their lead to ten with two runs in the third. Austin Kelly notched the first of his two day on a rope down the right-field line to go up 11-1.
Xavier cut the Bisons' lead down to five with a five-run bottom of the fourth, thanks to three hits in the frame. Fortunately, the Bisons were able to answer with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Jesus Pacheco logged an RBI on a sacrifice fly out to center field, and then Austin Kelly singled to right field to score two and put the Bisons up comfortably 14-6.
The Musketeers scored a run in each of the next two innings, but the Bisons put the finishing touches on the Saturday afternoon win with three runs in the seventh coming on a double to left center by Berg, his third knock Saturday, and on a throwing error allowing a runner home from third. The Bisons held Xavier to no runs in the last three frames to win 17-8 and even the series at one game each.
