Baseball Drops Saturday Contest With Austin Peay

NASHVILLE - After winning a close ball game to open the series on Friday, Lipscomb was handed their first conference loss of the year, falling 12-1 in seven innings to Austin Peay Saturday afternoon.

The Bisons could not contain the Governor's bats from the beginning, as Austin Peay plated three runs in each of the first two innings to go up 6-0.

Lipscomb held the Austin Peay scoreless in the third and got a run back in the bottom of the second on a solo home run from Trace Willhoite, but the Governors plated three more runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth. 

The Bisons could not get anything going offensively in game two, as they were held to just three hits on the day.

Austin Peay added their final run of the contest in the seventh to go up 12-1, scoring in all but two innings Saturday. With run rule in effect, the Governors retired the Bisons' batters in order to even the series in seven.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Austin Peay outhit the Bisons 13-3 in game two of the series.
  • Lipscomb's was held to their lowest hit total of the season.
  • The finished 5-of-12 with two outs and 10-of-21 with runners on.
  • Trace Willhoite's home run in the second was his seventh of the season.
