Baseball Falls Sunday to Governors

NASHVILLE - Lipscomb baseball matched up with Austin Peay in Sunday's series finale, looking for their first series win of the 2024 season. After allowing three runs early, Lipscomb tied the contest with a three-spot in the third. However, the Governors tallied eight more runs before the contest concluded and took an 11-6 series-clinching victory back to Clarksville Sunday afternoon.

Austin Peay struck first on a solo home run and then on a successful steal home in the opening inning. The Governors scored again in the top of the third with another solo shot to right center to go up 3-0.

The Bisons got all three runs back in the bottom of the third, but Lipscomb could only hold Austin Peay's offense scoreless in just two innings Sunday afternoon.

The Governors rallied off the ball game's next seven runs in the next three innings to jump past the Bisons.

Lipscomb scored runs in the sixth and seventh on a no out bases-loaded double play that allowed David Coppedge from third to score and then an Austin Kelly sacrifice fly to left field to score Alex Vergara

Each team brought home a run in the ninth on base hits. The Bisons' run came on a triple to center by Coppedge, but their run deficit was too steep of a hill to climb, as the Governors took the series from the Bisons with an 11-6 Sunday win at Ken Dugan Field.
