Baseball Drops Middle Game to Lions Friday Night

FLORENCE, Ala. - Lipscomb Baseball fell in game two of their series with North Alabama (9-16, 2-6 ASUN) 5-3 Friday night. The Bisons tied the game in the eighth, but two runs in the bottom half for the Lions proved to be the difference to even the series.

Lipscomb struck first again in game two on a Trace Willhoite single to right center, which scored Alex Vergara in the third.

However, in the bottom half, the Lions took the lead, scoring two on an RBI double and a sacrifice fly for a 2-1 advantage.

North Alabama scored again in the fourth on a hard grounder to third to take a two-run advantage.

The Bisons got a run back in the fifth on a solo homer from Vergara, his 9th of the season to lead Lipscomb's ball club, which brought Coach Forehand's bunch within one.

Willhoite came up big again for the Bisons, tying it in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to left field to score Vergara again, who doubled and then stole a bag before reaching home.

The Lions got back on top in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single through the right side to take a one-run lead. They then added an insurance run in the same frame to take a 5-3 lead.

Lipscomb could not overcome their two-run deficit in the ninth, falling 5-3 in game two of the series, forcing a rubber matchup Saturday afternoon to decide the weekend.
