NASHVILLE –  Lipscomb women's basketball fell in its quarterfinal matchup of the ASUN Championship inside Allen Arena 99-68. After defeating the Colonels twice in the regular season, EKU got the best of the Bisons in the third matchup, the one that mattered most to advance to the Semifinal round.
Blythe Pearson led the Bisons in her last outing in a Lipscomb uniform, scoring 15 points with five three-pointers. Aleah Sorrentino scored 13 points against the Colonels on 5-of-9 shooting. Claira McGowan and Molly Heard each scored 11 points in the loss, combining to hit four three-pointers.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Pearson got the Bisons' scoring going early with a three-pointer on each of their first two possessions to take an early 6-2 lead with just over a minute gone by.Â
McGowan put in another three to give Lipscomb an eight-point advantage (12-4) a few possessions later. However, EKU took their first lead with a little over four minutes to go in the first quarter, using a 9-0 run to take a 14-13 lead.Â
Diana Saleh halted the run momentarily with a layup off of screen and roll action on a dish from Heard to regain the lead, but the Colonels outscored the Bisons 10-6 in the final three and a half minutes to take a 26-21 lead into the second quarter.Â
Two free throws from Molly Heard push the Bisons deficit back to two, but a second-chance three-pointer and layup combined to give the Colonels a seven-point advantage with 6:22 remaining in the second. Â
The Bisons worked to get back within two possessions twice in the final two minutes of the quarter, but a three-point play sequence stretched the Colonel's lead back out to seven (48-41) at the half.
EKU controlled the entire second half, outscoring the Bisons 51-27 in the final twenty minutes of action. In the third and fourth quarters, EKU held Lipscomb to a 28 percent clip, while the Colonels shot nearly 60 percent from the floor, including five three-pointers.
As a result, EKU snapped their three-game losing skid to Lipscomb, winning 99-68 in the ASUN Championship Quarterfinal Saturday afternoon.
