NASHVILLE -Â Lipscomb baseball was held to five hits in their series-opening loss to FGCU (20-20, 12-7 ASUN) as the Eagles finished with 13 hits in an 11-2 final in game one of the weekend in Nashville.
In the first frame, FGCU scored two runs in their opening at-bats on a two-run home run. Lipscomb got a run back on an RBI single from Trace Willhoite to left field in the bottom half, but the Eagles scored a run again in the second to go up 3-1
FGCU had their biggest scoring output in the third, bringing five more runs across to extend their lead to seven. After bringing home a run in the fourth, Lipscomb scored which ended up being their final run of the night on a single to second from Mason Lundgrin, which brought around Adam Fallon.
Two more runs came across for the Eagles in the sixth and seventh to go up 11-2, which proved to be the final. Freshman Adam Switaski pitched well for the Bisons on the mound, forcing the Eagles into two of their three scoreless innings which came in the eighth and ninth frames.Â
POSTGAME NOTES
- Willhoite reached base for the 25th straight game and earned his 38th RBI of the season.
- Switalski pitched two innings and allowed just two hits with three strikeouts.
- FGCU went 5-for-13 with runners in scoring position and hit 7-of-21 with runners on.Â
