Baseball Bests Bellarmine in Friday Opener

NASHVILLE - Lipscomb baseball defeated Bellarmine (7-41, 6-19 ASUN) 5-4 at Ken Dugan Field to open their final home weekend series. Tied 4-4, Ken Dugan Award winner Mason Lundgrin singled to right field to bring home the go-ahead run in the sixth for the Bisons.

The Knights scored first in game one of the series, plating a run on a single up the middle in the second inning to jump ahead 1-0.

The Bisons answered with a run in the bottom half, thanks to David Coppedge, who singled down the left field line to even the score.

Bellarmine retook the lead in the third as they homered twice, a solo shot to left and then a two-run bomb to right to take a 4-3 advantage.

Coppedge brought in his second run of the night in the bottom of the fifth with another well-hit single to left field, evening the score.

In the sixth, Lundgrin brought in the go-ahead run on a single to right field, which proved to be the game-winner. The Bisons held the Knight's scoreless from the fourth frame on to take game one 5-4.
