DELAND, Fla. - Lipscomb baseball shuts out Eastern Kentucky 10-0 in the first elimination game of the ASUN Championship Wednesday night. After just three hits in their first game of the tournament hours prior, the Bisons' offense came alive with their backs against the wall, paired with outstanding performances on the mound from Hayden Frank, Jake Poindexter, and Tanner Lyne to get their first shutout of the season and advance to another day.
After two scoreless innings on both sides, Lipscomb broke the silence on an RBI single from Trace Willhoite in the third to go up 1-0.
In their next at-bats, David Coppedge gave the Bisons a two-run advantage on a solo home run to left in the fourth.
Two bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the sixth gave Lipscomb more insurance as they increased their lead to 4-0.
The Bisons continued to pour it on, putting up a five spot in the seventh, which stretched their lead out to 9-0.
Coppedge brought in his second and third runs of the night on a double to left that nearly went yard. Then, Adam Fallon reached and advance all the way to third on an error by the EKU left fielder that brought in two more, followed by an RBI single from lead-off man Alex Vergara
In the eighth to end the game, Coppedge brought in Willhoite on a sacrifice fly to complete a 10-0 run-rule shutout and keep the Bisons' season alive.
