SCORING SUMMARY
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb came out on the front foot early, controlling the first several minutes of the match. Early on,
Bubu Medina got a good look at the top of the box for the Bisons' first shot of the season, but the save was comfortably made to keep things scoreless.
Shortly after,
Matteo Colombo got in on the action for Lipscomb, rocketing a promising shot that skimmed just over the crossbar.
Memphis started to settle in and earned a free kick in a promising spot in the 21' minute, but the shot sailed well high.
Lipscomb punched back with a strike in the 23' minute to take a 1-0 lead.
George Macready started the play out of the back with an arching ball to a streaking Karsten up the right side. Karsten expertly trapped the ball and made a cut to his left, 20-yards out from goal. He dribbled a couple of yards to the left and rocketed a left-footed beauty to the upper left corner of the goal. The stunning strike gave the freshman his first goal as a Bison and a 1-0 Lipscomb lead.
Both squads had chances in the final minutes of the first half, but Lipscomb held onto the 1-0 lead at halftime.
After the half, Memphis was on the attack, but the Bisons weathered the storm.
Juan Carlos Rodriguez made a couple of massive saves in the 52' minute to keep Lipscomb in control.
Lipscomb doubled its lead in the 54' minute when
Daniel Stampatori sent a ball to
Roen Davis on the right side. He sent the ball across the face of goal and Stinnett slotted the ball home from the penalty spot for a 2-0 Lipscomb lead.
Memphis quickly got one back in the 59' minute, cutting the Bisons' lead 2-1.
Lipscomb had another great look in the 61' minute when
Keegan Yorke got a head on the end of a free kick. His shot went just high, keeping the score line 2-1 in favor of the Purple & Gold.
Memphis was on the attack in the final minutes of the game, but Lipscomb was up to the challenge and held strong to see out the 2-1 victory.
