SCORING SUMMARY
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first minutes of the match were back and forth as both squads felt each other out. UC San Diego had a few good looks in its attacking third, but Lipscomb keeper
Juan Carlos Rodriguez made several early saves to keep things knotted.
The Bisons broke through in the 30' minute when
Daniel Stampatori was taken down just outside the box, earning a Lipscomb free kick. Colombo stood over the set piece and banged a left-footed rocket into the bottom left of the goal, putting Lipscomb ahead 1-0.
UCSD earned a good opportunity to find the equalizer in the 44' minute with a penalty kick. Rodriguez, however, was up to the task and expertly read the spot kick and made a diving save to keep the Bisons ahead. All told, Rodriguez made six saves during the first 45.
Lipscomb defended for the final minute of the half, taking a 1-0 advantage into the second frame.
In the second frame, Lipscomb came out as the aggressor and was awarded in the 54' minute. Smith earned a penalty and calmly converted, doubling the Lipscomb advantage 2-0.
The Tritons got one back in the 59' minute when a deflection found the back of the net. In the 79' minute, UCSD equalized for a 2-2 ballgame.
Neither team found the back of the net in the final minutes and the Bisons earned a point to end its West Coast swing.
Rodriguez was impressive between the pipes, making eight saves. Colombo scored his first goal of his Lipscomb career and Smith netted his first of the season.
