Paladi Wins Two at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

Mariya Dolzhenko and Sofiia Paladi participated in the weekend tournament for Lipscomb.

Box Score GLENDALE, Wis. - The Lipscomb University women's tennis team was one of 12 teams to participate in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic this past weekend. 

Sophomore Mariia Dolzhenko and junior Sofiia Paladi participated in the event. 

Paladi advanced to the main draw's round of 16 after a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win over Salakthip Qunmang of Oklahoma on Friday.

In the opening set, Paladi won the first four games, but Oumang rallied back to take the next four. Going into the next game, Lipscomb took the next two games to win the opener, 6-4. 

Oklahoma stormed out to a 5-0 lead in set two en route to a 6-2 victory. 

After splitting the first two games in the third set, Paladi won three straight to go ahead 5-1. Despite Ounmang making it interesting by cutting the deficit to 5-4, Paladi won the final game to take the win. 

Later in the day, Paladi faced Ece Gencer of Purdue, and Lipscomb got out to a strong start with a 3-0 lead in the opening frame. However, Gencer won the next four to go out to a 4-3 advantage. 

From there, the players went back-and-forth. Tied at five, Paladi was one step closer to an opening set win with by taking the 6-5 lead, but Gencer forced the seven-point tiebreak and rolled to a 7-1 win to take the opening set. 

Purdue kept momentum for all of the second set after winning the first two games en route to a 6-3 win. 

The next day, Paladi moved to the consolation draw and knocked off Calissa Dellabarca of Purdue, 6-1, 7-5. 

Later, facing Maya Bordereau of Wisconsin, the two players took a set each after Paladi won the second, 6-2. Going to a 10-point tiebreak in the third set, Paladi got out to a 5-0 lead and was two points away from advancing with an 8-3 lead, but Bordereau won seven straight games to defeat Paladi, 10-8. 

Also participating is Mariya Dolzhenko, who dropped two matchups to Ida Clement of Purdue, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and Maxine Murphy of Washington State, 6-0, 6-1. 

Dolzhenko and Paladi also played in the main doubles draw. Only playing one contest, the duo fell to Salakthip Qunmang/Roisin Gilheany from Oklahoma, 6-3. 

The Bisons return to action on Oct. 10 with the ITA Regional Championships in Murfreesboro.
