HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bisons came out of the gate controlling much of the possession in the early minutes of the match. Both Javanne Smith and Dan Karsten had great chances early with shots that were blocked and just off the crossbar.

Charlotte countered the minute after Karsten's shot with a one-on-one opportunity, but Lipscomb keeper Juan Carlos Rodriguez was up to the task, making a sliding save which was then cleaned up by the Bisons' defense to keep things scoreless in the 11' minute.

Lipscomb scored the opening goal of the match in the 26' minute when Smith sent a long throw in from the left side. Keegan York headed the ball across the box to the back post and Karsten finished it off with a toe poke inside the post for a 1-0 Lipscomb lead.

Charlotte, however, responded quickly with a goal in 28' minute to level the match 1-1.

The start of the second half was back-and-forth between the two sides, but Charlotte found the go-ahead goal in the 60' minute when a set piece resulted in the ball in the back of the net.

Lipscomb found its equalizer in the 72' minute when Smith was taken down in the box resulting in a penalty kick. He calmly converted from the spot for a 2-2 game.

Charlotte, however, answered once again in the 75' minute with a goal to retake a 3-2 advantage.

The Purple and Gold were on the front foot for much of the final minutes of the match, putting several shots towards the 49ers goal, but were unable to find the back of the net as Lipscomb ultimately fell 3-2.
