HOW IT HAPPENED
The match was tightly contested from the first whistle. Kentucky, however, converted on two early set pieces for a 2-0 lead in the 12' minute.
Lipscomb locked things down after conceding the goals and played much of the rest of the half in its attacking third. In the 23' minute,
Josiah Green got a good look just in front of goal that was saved by the Wildcats' keeper.
The Bisons continued to stay aggressive when
Matteo Colombo rocketed a long left-footed shot that was also saved. Shortly after, the Bisons were awarded when Green earned a free kick outside the left side of the box.
Camilo Estrada took the free kick and sent the ball to the center of the box where Bubu Media rose for a header that sailed to the back of the net, cutting the UK lead 2-1.
Lipscomb nearly leveled in the 33' minute when
Tyler Stinnett put a shot across frame that was tailing just inside the back post, but the Wildcats' keeper once again was up to the task and kept the equalizer out of the back of the net.
The Bisons continued on the attack early in the second half with two great chances on frame in the 59' and 66' minutes that were both saved, keeping UK in the lead.
The equalizer for the Bisons came in the 76' minute when
Javanne Smith was taken down inside the box. After a lengthy VAR review, the penalty was awarded and
Dan Karsten stepped up to the spot. He calmly converted to make the score 2-2.
Lipscomb continued to attack, creating many chances in the final minutes as the game picked up intensity. The game, however, ended up in a 2-2 draw as the Bisons fought back from an early deficit to earn a home result.
