CINCINNATI – The Lipscomb University men's tennis team picked up the doubles point and had the 3-2 advantage, but Xavier University won four of the six singles flights, including the final two flights, to take down the Bisons, 4-3, Friday afternoon from the Eastern Hills Indoor Club.
Final Score: Xavier 4, Lipscomb 3
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio (Eastern Hills Indoor Club)
Records: Lipscomb (1-2), Xavier (1-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons got down early in doubles, as Alex Kotarski/Pascal Mosberger won the top flight, 6-1.
However, to earn the team point, you need to win two of the three doubles flights, and after Oskar Szzymczak/
Filippo Verdese won 6-2 at the No. 3, Lipscomb got out to the 1-0 match lead with a 6-4 win at the second spot by
Giovanni Ciocca and
Oliver Thoeny.
Unfortunately, it was a different story in singles, as the Musketeers won the one- and five-lines to go ahead 2-1. Thoeny dropped a second set tiebreak, 7-6 (4).
Juan Lombisano evened the score at 2-2 with his 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory at the No. 3 flight, and
Facundo Perlov made it 3-2 with his 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 4.
Coming down to the No. 6 and No. 2 in the lineup, Xavier was able to win both to take the match, 4-3. The clincher came at the second line, as Mosberger used a 9-7 tiebreaking win in the opening set to defeat Ciocca, 6-4, in set number two.
