THE SHORT STORY
Lipscomb Men's Basketball wasn't able to hold off Queens on Thursday night in Allen Arena as it fell 75-73 for its first ASUN loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Queens jumped out to an early 11-2 lead at the first media timeout with the help of red hot three-point shooting.
Lipscomb outscored Queens 9-5 over the next four minutes to cut the Royals' lead 16-11 at the second media timeout of the first half.
The Bisons continued to hold strong and dialed up its defense to continue to chip away at the Queens lead. At the third media timeout, Lipscomb had increased its shooting to 50-percent from the floor and trailed just 22-20.
Out of the timeout, neither team scored for nearly three minutes before
Joe Anderson knocked down a pair from the charity stripe to tie the game 22-22.
Lipscomb took its first lead when
Dylan Faulkner finished at the rim for a 24-22 advantage.
The Bisons continued to outpace the Royals, opening a 32-24 lead with back-to-back triples from
Charlie Williams.
Queens scored the final four points of the half, but the Bisons led 32-28 at the end of the first frame.
After the halftime break, Lipscomb outscored Queens 9-3 for a 41-31 lead that prompted a Queens timeout.
The Bisons continued to create separation from Queens through the next minutes, taking a 46-33 advantage at the under-16 media timeout in the second half.
However, a 10-0 Queens run cut into the Lipscomb lead 48-45 with 11:45 left in the game.
Out of the under-12 media timeout, Miles While broke a nearly three-minute Lipscomb scoring drought with a tough drive to the bucket.
Gyasi Powell followed that with a triple to get Lipscomb back ahead 53-45.
The separation was short lived as Queens battled back to tie the game at 54 with seven minutes left to play.
Lipscomb was without a field goal for well over four minutes and Queens retook a 56-54 lead to prompt a
Lennie Acuff timeout.
At the final media timeout of the game, Queens held a 66-62 advantage.
Lipscomb got back within a pair and had Queens to the end of the shot clock but the Royals buried a last second heave to extend a 71-66 advantage.
The Bisons quickly drove on the other end and Powell got a quick bucket, cutting the lead 71-68 with 1:35 on the clock.
Queens went to the free throw line up 73-70 with 24 seconds on the clock and missed the front end of a one-and-one. Faulkner grabbed the rebound and Powell nailed a triple in front of the Lipscomb bench, tying the game 73-73 with 15 seconds left.
The Royals called its final timeout with 12.8 on the clock and the ball in its front court. Queens scored with 5.4 seconds remaining and the Bisons last shot rimmed out as Lipscomb fell 75-73.
HERD NOTES
- Lipscomb shot 47-percent from the floor to Queens' 44-percent.
- Queens out-rebounded the Bisons 41-27.
- Powell was the Bisons' leading scorer with 16 points. Faulkner and Ognacevic also contributed 15 points each.
