HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team was able to create much offensively in the opening minutes of the match. Midway through the first frame, Central Arkansas nearly opened up scoring when a misplay by the Lipscomb defense resulted in an open net. The Bears' winger was charging towards goal, but defender
Caleb Hylton came in with a last-minute sliding tackle to clear the ball off the line and keep the match scoreless.
Lipscomb had a lot of possession, but struggled to get anything going in its attacking third until the 34' minute when the Bisons strung together several passes in its attacking third.
Daniel Stampatori had the ball at the goal line and put a cross in front of frame that
Robert Rodriguez finished for a 1-0 Lipscomb advantage. The goal marked Rodriguez's first goal as a Bison in his first career start. The goal broke a six-match scoreless streak for the Bisons.
The lead, however, lasted just a minute as Central Arkansas quickly leveled 1-1 in the 35' minute.
With just over two minutes left in the first frame, the Bisons had a couple of great looks in front of the goal, but weren't able to get a strong shot out of the scrum, and the match remained 1-1 through the halftime whistle.
Intensity was high on both sides as the second half opened. The first good look of the frame came to the Bisons in the 49' minute when
Josiah Green slipped behind his defender, but his shot sailed above the crossbar.
Lipscomb had another really good look in the 66' minute when Green put a ball to the penalty spot to a waiting Will Kennedy. His shot, however, also sailed high as the Bisons continued to search for a go-ahead goal.
The Bisons were the aggressor for much of the second half, keeping possession largely in its half, but against the run of play, the Bears were able to break the Bisons' back line and put one away as the Bisons trailed 2-1.
Green tried to level the game back up in the 72' minute with a promising right-footed shot, but a diving save from the Bears' keeper kept Lipscomb from equalizing.
Central Arkansas once again took advantage of its limited time in its attacking third with another goal in the 74' minute as Lipscomb trailed 3-1. The momentum turned completely in favor of the Bears, and it scored twice more in the 75' and 83' minutes.
With 26 seconds remaining, Lipscomb got on the board again when
Baxter Hurt played a ball over the top to Kennedy, whose original shot was parried by the keeper, but he followed it and finished on his second effort. The goal marked his first in a Lipscomb kit.
The Bisons ultimately fell 5-2 on the road.
