HOW IT HAPPENED
Queens took an early lead, scoring in the 3' minute, taking advantage of a set piece as the Bisons were feeling out a bouncy turf surface.
The Bisons nearly got a quick equalizer in the 4th minute when
Levi Jones got behind the defense and put a ball just in front of the goal, but the service was just behind
Raphael Constant, and the Queens keeper was able to spoil the chance.
Lipscomb held much of the possession over the next several minutes of the match. Jones continued to be active on the right side, creating another chance in the 20' minute with another dangerous cross in the box, but the Royals' defense was up to the task of clearing the ball away.
Jones had a go himself in the 27' minute with a right-footed shot from the corner of the six-yard box, but his shot sailed over the top corner as the Bisons continued to search.
Alex Kara was called upon in the 29' minute to make a big save on a corner kick to keep the Queens lead at just a goal.
Lipscomb continued to control much of the match, but the score remained 1-0 in favor of Queens at the halftime whistle.
The opening five minutes of the second half were at a quick pace as each team had a good chance at a goal, but neither was able to find the back of the net, and the score remained.
Robert Rodriguez earned a free kick in a dangerous area when he was taken down 20 yards from goal in the 57' minute. The resulting shot, however, was into the wall, and the Lipscomb threat was thwarted.
Lipscomb continued to control things and earned several corner kicks, but finally broke through in the 71' minute when
Brayden Strait sent in a long throw that wasn't cleared by the Queens defense. The ball fell to the feet of substitute
Luis Toledo, who put a beautiful strike through traffic to the back of the net for a 1-1 match.
Baxter Hurt nearly put the Bisons ahead in the 74' minute when he rose for a header off a corner kick that was punched away by the Queens defense just before crossing the goal line.
The match opened up after Lipscomb's equalizer, as both sides felt the urgency to claim all three points.
The final 10 minutes of the match saw Queens begin to press and find more of the ball in its attacking third, forcing the Bisons to defend. Lipscomb was able to see out the 1-1 road result to earn a crucial ASUN point as the regular season is winding down.
