Lennie Acuff led the Bisons to an 87-80 victory over Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon, marking his 100
th victory with the Lipscomb Bisons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bellarmine won the tip and scored the first four points of the game, but Lipscomb recovered well and surged back for a 13-8 advantage after
Gyasi Powell and
Joe Anderson nailed a pair of triples.
Out of the first media timeout, Lipscomb continued to outpace the Knights, increasing its lead 18-11 with 11:57 on the clock.
The Bisons kept its foot on the gas with a 7-0 run, increasing its lead 23-11 before Bellarmine got back on the board.
Lipscomb continued shooting at a high clip, connecting at 75-percent, and opened a 32-18 advantage at the under-eight media timeout.
Bellarmine picked up its shooting and had a quick 6-0 run out of the under-four media timeout, shaving the Lipscomb lead 36-28 prompting a
Lennie Acuff timeout. The Knights continued on a 13-0 run, giving the Bisons just a 36-35 lead with 45 seconds left in the half.
Ognacevic ended the drought with a pull up jumper, but Bellarmine scored as the halftime buzzer went off. Lipscomb held a slight 38-37 advantage at the half.
Lipscomb came out of the halftime break hot, scoring the first five points of the frame. Lipscomb continued to lead through the first several minutes of the second half with a 52-46 advantage.
Bellarmine, however, didn't go away and fought back with a couple of traditional three-point plays to shave the Lipscomb lead back down to 54-53 with just under 13 minutes to play.
The Knights took its first lead since the opening minutes when it hit a contested triple for a 56-55 game.
The squads continued to trade blows through the next minutes as Lipscomb held a narrow 64-62 advantage at the under-eight media break.
Out of the timeout, Ognacevic made a pair of free throws and converted with a big drive on the next possession, giving Lipscomb a little separation, 69-62, forcing a Bellarmine timeout.
Bellarmine continued to stick around and at the final media timeout, Lipscomb was ahead 72-68.
Ahead by three with 1:30 to play,
Will Pruitt nailed back-to-back triples, including one at the end of the shot clock, to give the Bisons an 84-77 advantage with 38.9 ticks of the clock left.
Lipscomb defended well over the final minute and saw out an 87-80 victory on Saturday in Allen Arena.
HERD NOTES
- Ognacevic matched a season-high with 32 points which marked his third 30+ game this season.
- Pruitt and Anderson scored in double-digits with 19 and 12 points, respectively.
- Lipscomb shot 54-percent on the game while Bellarmine shot an impressive 59-percent.
- The Bisons connected at a 41-percent clip from three-point range.
