LAREDO, Texas – Lipscomb Men's Golf finished seventh out of 16 teams at the Border Olympics on Tuesday. The Bisons finished in the top half of the field, despite not having the opportunity to play a practice round due to its clubs being lost during travel. Lipscomb shot a 301 in the first round before greatly improving with scores of 288 and 283 in the second and third rounds, respectively. Lipscomb's 283 in the final round tied for the lowest team round in the tournament.
Sam Potter led Lipscomb throughout the tournament, finishing tied for 18
th in a field of 84 players. Potter shot a 74 in the first round and steadily improved with a 72 and 71 in the final two rounds to finish with a 217 (+4). Potter carded Lipscomb's only eagle along with nine birdies and 30 pars.
Alejandro Rodriguez and
Jack Morris tied for 25
th with strong scores. Rodriguez opened his tournament with a 75 before posting his best score, a 71, in the second round. He wrapped up with a 73 on Tuesday for a 219 (+6). Rodriguez led the field with a solid 40 pars and connected on four birdies. Morris also finished with a 219 (+6) with a 75 and 73 in the first two rounds before shooting his tournament-best 71 in his final round. Morris tied for second in the field with 39 pars and had five birdies.
Jaron Leasure tied for 33
rd in the field. He shot a 77 and 75 in the first two rounds before ripping off a Lipscomb-best 69 in the final round of play to rocked 23 places up the leaderboard with a 219 (+8). Leasure had eight birdies to bolster 34 pars.
Minas Manias rounded things out for the Bisons with a 40
th place finish. He started off his tournament with a 78, but improved with a 72 in his final two rounds for a 222 (+9). Manias tied for second in the field with 12 total birdies to go with his 30 pars.
