Three Volleyball Student-Athletes Invited to Train for U.S. Women's National Team Open

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Lipscomb University Volleyball will be well represented for the U.S. Women's National Team Open Program, as three student-athletes have been invited and will train for the program this weekend, Feb. 21-23.

Sophia Hudepohl, Courtney Jones and Berkley Mischler will represent LUV and the Atlantic Sun Conference at the event.

"I am incredibly proud of Sophia, Courtney, Berkley and ultimately our program to be represented at the USA Training Center. These three individuals have proven time and time again to be elite at their position and I am so excited for them to have the opportunity to play with other elite athletes from around this country," said head coach Brandon Rosenthal

Over 160 collegiate student-athletes will train at this event.

"The excitement and popularity of the sport of volleyball has never been greater with Olympic medals, multiple professional leagues, record participation at the youth levels and an incredible rise in mainstream media coverage. This opportunity is an excellent example of the level of Lipscomb Volleyball and its status on a national level. All three of these young women have earned this opportunity through countless hours of dedication to the sport they love and Lipscomb University," said Rosenthal.

There are three women's age-group national teams this year that WNTOP participants may be considered for based on their birth year and eligibility: Women's U21 (athletes born in 2005 and younger) and Girls U19 (athletes born in 2007 and younger), both competing at their respective Pan American Cups and FIVB World Championships. A newly formed Women's U23 National Team (born in 2003 and younger) will train and compete internationally, replacing the domestic-only Women's Collegiate National Team.

Earning her second straight nod to the Open Program, Hudepohl was an ASUN Second Team selection last season. She was the true catalyst for the Bisons offense that hit .322 in conference matches that saw the Bisons finish second in the league. In 63 league sets, she led the conference in assists per set with 11.0.

Sitting at 3,418 assists and 10.33 per set, the Cincinnati, Ohio native sits in third all-time in LUV's Division I history.

Jones snagged a First Team All-ASUN honor in 2024 and is a two-time honoree after 17 double-digit kill performances. Leading the team in kills with 372, averaging 3.54 per set, the Terre Haute, Indiana native was chosen to the ASUN All-Tournament Team.

Mischler was a strong middle blocker for the Bisons alongside Meg Mersman in the rotation. Averaging 1.70 kills and 0.8 blocks per set, the Appleton, Wisconsin native swung .279 during her junior campaign.

Now with 212 career blocks, she sits eighth in the Lipscomb Division I record books.

Sessions start on Friday, and all are available to watch with a BallerTV subscription.
