Baseball Stumbles to West Virginia in Monday Matinee

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University baseball team saw a go-ahead homer in the 10th inning by West Virginia University, as the Mountaineers completed the four-game sweep over the Bisons with a 5-4 score, Monday from Ken Dugan Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the bottom of the second, with two outs, Damion Kenealy Jr. launched his second homer of the season with a two-run bomb to left field.

In the fourth, a sac fly by Gavin Kelly made it a 2-1 score as Sam White crossed the plate following a lead-off walk. 

In the fifth, the Mountaineers strung together three runs to claim the lead, 4-2. 

The Bisons answered in the seventh with two runs. After loading the bases, Jake Berg made it 4-3 with a fielder's choice RBI, and Parks Bouck followed with a base knock to left to bring in the tying run in Kai Holm

Jace Trautner kept the bats quiet for the Mountaineers in the eighth, as he strung together three straight scoreless innings. Kaleb Kantola added a scoreless ninth that saw the contest go into extra frames. 

In the 10th, following a fly out, the tie was broken by a solo shot by Sam White to right field. 

The Bisons were able to coax a two-out walk in the bottom half, but a force out at second gave the game and the series sweep to the Mountaineers. 

KEY STATISTICS
David Coppedge posted a 2-for-4 day at the plate, while Damion Kenealy Jr.'s home run plated him two RBI. 

Tanner Lyne started for the Bisons. 10 of his 14 out were in the air, as he allowed one earned run on three hits in 4.2 innings. 

UP NEXT
The five-game stretch in four days wraps up on Tuesday with baseball edition of the Battle of the Boulevard against Belmont. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Ken Dugan Field.
