Kenealy’s Grand Slam Helps Baseball Shut Down Austin Peay in Series Finale

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – An eighth inning grand slam by Damion Kenealy Jr. and four strong innings by Kaleb Kantola helped Lipscomb University to an 8-6 win over Austin Peay State University, Sunday evening inside Raymond C. Hand Park.

Final Score: Lipscomb 8, Austin Peay 6
Location: Clarksville, Tennessee (Raymond C. Hand Park)
Records: Lipscomb (5-13, 1-2), Austin Peay (13-7, 2-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Austin Peay, despite a 1-2-3 inning to start the game, got a hold of Tanner Lyne in the second with a single, double and home run quickly made it a 3-0 lead. Three batters later, Trevor Conley added the Gov's fourth run of the inning with a solo home run.

In the third, John Bay made it a 5-0 lead for APSU with a lead off solo home run.

After Lyndon Glidewell kept the Bisons guessing through the first four innings, the Bisons used a lead off hit by pitch by Damion Kenealy that saw him come around to score on a Jacob Tobias base hit.

In the seventh, the Bisons made it a 5-2 deficit with Kai Holm's second home run of the season to center field.

After Kaleb Kantola left two runners on base in the bottom half of the seventh, Lipscomb's bats got hot at the right time. After Parks Bouck, David Coppedge and Ryan Austin all reached base for Damion Kenealy Jr, the junior transfer launched a grand slam off the first pitch to left field to flip the scoreboard to the Bisons' favor, 6-5.

Later, after a Jacob Tobias base hit, Brady Miller added on with an RBI double to make it 7-5. Two batters later, in his second at bat of the inning, Parks Bouck laced a base hit to bring home Tobias to lead 8-5.

Despite the Governors adding a run in the bottom of the ninth, Kaleb Kantola shut down their offense in the final four innings, striking out five batters, including an off-speed pitch to Cole Johnson to end the game.
