RALEIGH, N.C. – Lipscomb Men's Golf finished its regular season by winning the Stitch Intercollegiate on Saturday afternoon. The Bisons finished (+1) on the tournament, finishing three strokes better than UNCG and five strokes better than NC State, who rounded out the podium. The Bisons were solid in all rounds, shooting a 288 (+4) in each the first and third rounds, but shot the best round in the tournament at 277 (-7) in the second round.
Alejandro Rodriguez led the way for the Bisons with a runner-up finish while
Jaron Leasure also finished top-10 in the field.
Rodriguez paced Lipscomb with a second-place finish, posting a 209 (-4), finishing just one stroke behind the tournament champion. Rodriguez steadily improved throughout the tournament, improving in every round. He started off his weekend shooting a 71 before improving with a 70 in the second round and finished with a 68 in his final round to improve four spots and claim the tournament runner-up position. Rodriguez connected on 11 birdies throughout the tournament, including ripping off five birdies in his final round to be one of just five competitors to finish under par.
Leasure also put up impressive numbers for Lipscomb to finish tied for sixth place in the field, finishing even to par. The senior shot a 70 in each of the first two rounds and finished with a 73 in the final round to finish with a 213 total as one of seven golfers to finish even to par or better on the weekend. Leasure carded eight birdies on the weekend.
The Bisons' next finisher was
Sam Potter who tied for 26
th with a 218 (+5). Potter's best round of the tournament was a 67 (-4) in the second round to pace Lipscomb's best round of the tournament. Potter carded a 77 and 74 in the first and third rounds, respectively. Potter had eight birdies on the weekend, including a six-birdie round in the second.
Lipscomb's team scoring was rounded out by
Minas Manias and
Jack Morris. Manias tied for 32
nd while Morris tied for 38
th. Manias put in scores of 70, 75, 74 (+6) and Morris carded round scores of 78, 70, 73 (+8). Manias had 10 birdies while Morris connected on nine.
Jack Morris competed as an individual for Lipscomb, finishing tied for 35
th. Morris scored a 73 in the first round, a 72 in the second round and a 75 in the final round with seven birdies and Lipscomb's only eagle.
