NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University baseball team scored three insurance runs in the seventh to help secure the series sweep over Central Arkansas, 5-1, Saturday afternoon inside Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After three clean innings on both sides, Lipscomb finally struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning with a one-out, 379-foot home run by
David Coppedge for his seventh home run of the season.
After back-to-back 1-2-3 innings from
Davis Rokose and
Joey Mitchell in the fifth and sixth to keep the Bears off the board, the Bisons used a lead off single by
Brady Miller, and after a walk by
Parks Bouck and a double steal to put runners at second and third,
David Coppedge made it a 2-0 lead with an RBI groundout.
In the seventh, UCA got through to Mitchell on the hill. A sacrifice fly by Tanner Leonard cut the deficit in half, 2-1. However, the Bisons brought on
Collin Bosley-Smith out of the bullpen and he got out of the jam with a strikeout.
Lipscomb quickly got the run back in the bottom of the seventh with a lead off home run by
Damion Kenealy Jr. for his sixth of the season.
After a walk by
Jake Berg and a wild pitch,
Jacob Tobias made it a 4-1 lead with his pinch hit RBI single.
Later,
Aaron Stelogeannis made it a 5-1 lead with a double that went over the head of center fielder Sam Reynolds.
After getting those three insurance runs in the seventh, Bosley-Smith slammed the door on any comeback attempt from the Bears, as he retired the side in order in the eighth and worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to earn the save and complete the sweep.
KEY STATISTICS
David Coppedge posted a two-RBI game after his 1-for-4 day at the plate.
Aaron Stelogeannis and
Damion Kenealy Jr. each added an RBI of their own in the win.
Davis Rokose (2-0) earned the win, tossing five shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks, while striking out five.
Collin Bosley-Smith, who entered the game in the seventh with a 2-1 lead, finished the game out and earned his second save of the season.
