Baseball Wins Weekend Series with Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Lipscomb University baseball team scored a run in the first eight innings to defeat Bellarmine University, 8-3, to win the weekend and season series, Sunday afternoon from Knights Field.

Final Score: Lipscomb 8, Bellarmine 3
Location: Louisville, Kentucky (Knights Field)
Records: Lipscomb (25-25, 17-10), Bellarmine (13-38, 8-19)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb scored one run in each of the first eight innings to lock down the win. After a Brady Miller single and taking second base on a steal, Parks Bouck brought him home with a knock through the right side.

After Davis Rokose retired the Knights in order in the bottom of the first, the Bisons took advantage of a couple of BU errors. With two outs, after Collin Goda reached on a fielder's choice, he scampered over to third on a failed pickoff attempt by Mike Sokol. Miller kept the inning going by reaching on a throwing error by Zac Jones to see Goda score on the play.

In the third, after Kai Holm's second triple this week, Damion Kenealy Jr. made it 3-0 with a swinging bunt back to the catcher.

Bellarmine did get on the board in the bottom of the third with a Casey Sorg RBI single, but Lipscomb got the run back in the next half inning with a David Coppedge hit by pitch with the bases loaded.

The back-and-forth battle continued in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI single by Seth Sweet-Chick.

After a Jake Berg sac fly that made it 5-2 after five innings, Coppedge laced a double to the gap to score Miller.

Despite Bellarmine scoring in the sixth to make it a 6-3 lead for Lipscomb after six, the Bisons added two insurance runs in the seventh and eighth. Goda used a productive out in the seventh to score Berg.

In the eighth, after two outs, Coppedge's ninth home run over the left field wall made it an 8-3 lead.

With the win, the Bisons return to . 500 for the first time since the fourth game of the season when they were 2-2 back in February.
