FLORENCE, Ala. – The Lipscomb University baseball team was unable to complete the weekend sweep of the University of North Alabama, as the Lions salvaged the series finale, 4-1, Sunday afternoon from Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium.
Final Score: North Alabama 4, Lipscomb 1
Location: Florence, Alabama (Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium)
Records: Lipscomb (22-24, 15-9), North Alabama (17-28, 11-13)
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNA used a lead off hit by pitch by Ryan West that saw him later score on a sac fly by Matthew Delgado.
From there, the zeros piled up on both sides of the line score. In the sixth, the Bisons had an opportunity to crack the scoreboard with the bases loaded, but a double play ended the threat.
The momentum stayed with the Lions after inducing the twin killing on defense. Bryant Loving made it 2-0 lead on a bunt single, while Leighton Jenkins laid down a sac bunt RBI to make it 3-0.
North Alabama added a run in the seventh on a Jayden Sloan sacrifice fly.
Lipscomb did get on the board in the eighth thanks to
Collin Goda reaching on a fielding error.
Parks Bouck drove him in on a groundout to cut the deficit to 4-1, but the Lions fended off the Bisons the rest of the way.
Despite the loss, the Bisons return to the ASUN Championship for the 12th straight year the tournament has been held and the 15th time in program history. In the now 12 straight seasons Lipscomb has made the championship, they have won two tournament titles and three overall (2008-15-23).
