LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Lipscomb University baseball team out-hit Bellarmine University 17-8, but it's the run column that matters in this game, as the Knights used a three-run seventh inning to take down the Bisons, 11-9, Friday afternoon from Knights Field.
Final Score: Bellarmine 11, Lipscomb 9
Location: Louisville, Kentucky (Knights Field)
Records: Lipscomb (23-25, 15-10), Bellarmine (13-36, 8-17)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The offense got out to a strong start in the first inning. After back-to-back hits by Aaron Stlogeannis and Brady MIller,
Parks Bouck smashed a hit through the left side for a 1-0 lead.
After Miller and Bouck had a double steal to move them to second and third,
Damion Kenealy Jr. had a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 lead.
Bellarmine responded with five runs in the bottom of the first and one more in the second to lead 6-2.
In the third, the Bisons chipped at the deficit with an RBI double by
David Coppedge and a second straight sac fly by Kenealy.
In the fourth, after
Collin Goda started the inning with a two-baggers, he moved to third on a fly out and scored on a double by Miller to trim the deficit to 6-5.
However, the Knights swelled the lead back to three runs, 8-5, on a two-run shot by Joey Milto.
In the seventh, Lipscomb tacked on four runs and reclaimed the lead.
Jake Berg's fourth home run of the season with a two-run shot to make it a one-run game again, 8-7.
Following a
Keaton Mahan walk and Goda's second double of the game to flip the lineup card back to the top, Stelogeannis went to left center for a two-run single to take a 9-8 lead.
The Bisons, unfortunately, were unable to keep the lead for long with a game-tying home run by Milto. Later in the frame, a Charlie Rife two-run homer gave the Knights the lead for good, 11-9.
Lipscomb had opportunities to get back into the game late. In the ninth, thanks to three hit by pitches and a Coppedge single to load the bases, a strikeout ended the threat and gave Bellarmine the win at home.
