THE SHORT STORY

The Bisons battled back from an early second-half deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against Memphis to open the season on Thursday night.

SCORING SUMMARY
HOW IT HAPPENED

Lipscomb controlled the pace and play early in the match. Memphis got off a couple of shots in the first 20 minutes, but the Bisons were able to easily handle them.

In the 20' minute, Lipscomb's attack nearly broke through when Tyler Stinnett and Jaami Qureshi linked up on the right side of the pitch. Qureshi rocketed a right-footed shot from just outside the top of the box. He had the keeper beaten, but his shot skirted just wide of frame.

The Bisons had another promising attack in the 29' minute, this time from the left. Once again, the attack started from Qureshi who flew up the left flank and rocketed a shot that was saved by the Tigers' keeper. Will Kennedy took a rip at the rebound, but it was blocked.

Just two minutes later, Josiah Green showed his speed and got behind his defender for a one-on-one opportunity with the Memphis keeper. He took a shot, but once again, the Memphis keeper came up with the save to keep the stalemate.

Lipscomb's had one more chance on frame in the 34' minute that was also saved. The sides continued to battle to a stalemate at the half.

Memphis took a lead quickly after the halftime break when a corner kicked ended up in a scrum in the box. The ball found its way to the back of the net as Memphis took a 1-0 advantage.

Memphis threatened to double its tally in the 64' minute when it got a head on the end of a corner kick, but Alex Kara made a diving save to keep the lead at a goal.

Lipscomb continued to press for the equalizer, controlling much of the match. In the 76' minute, Tyler Stinnett and Luke Hanlon had a pair of threatening shots that were blocked and saved.

The breakthrough came just a minute later when the Bisons found the back of the net in the 77' minute. Levi Jones put a cheeky flick across the face of goal and Diego Ramirez rose for a header and tucked the ball in the far post to equalize 1-1.

The Bisons nearly got a go-ahead goal in the 82' minute when Green won a free kick just outside the box. Hanlon put the ball dangerously at the back post and Brayden Strait connected on a shot that flew just barely outside the back post.

Each squad continued to compete until the final whistle and the match ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw.

HERD NOTES
