HOW IT HAPPENED

Gardner-Webb had the first attack of the match just after the kickoff that resulted in a shot that was into the side netting. The sides settled in after that with back-and-forth action as the teams felt out the match.

In the 17' minute, Lipscomb's Noah Kump was called on for the first time to make a big save between the pipes to keep things scoreless.

In the 26' minute, the Bisons won a free kick in its attacking third. Daniel Firek put in a dangerous ball that was recycled back out to him. Firek then put a shot in that sailed wide of frame.

The Bisons had another good attack in the 29' minute when the defense found Kubah Appiah streaking up the right side in space. He laid the ball to Diego Ramirez at the top of the 18 who had a go, but his shot was easily saved by the GWU keeper.

Appiah continued to pressure the Bulldogs' back line and was taken down just outside the 18 when he was about to break through the last line of defense. The ensuing set piece was dealt with by the Bulldogs to keep things scoreless.

Kump was once again strong between the posts with another save in the 32' that looked to surely be a Gardner-Webb goal.

The breakthrough came in the 35' minute for Gardner-Webb with a shot from the penalty spot that found the back of the net for a 1-0 Bulldogs lead.

The score would hold to the halftime whistle.

Lipscomb had the better of play in the opening minutes of the second half. In its opening attack, the Bisons won a free kick in its attacking half. Firek once again put in a gem of a ball that nearly found its way through the box and into the back post, but a Gardner-Webb save kept the Bisons from equalizing.

The Bulldogs settled back in and netted a second in the 55' minute for a 2-0 advantage.
Lipscomb continued to search and nearly broke through in the 78' minute when Firek sent in a corner kick to the front post that Appiah got a head on. The ball rolled barely wide of the back post as the Bisons were held off the board.

Gardner-Webb netted another in the 84' minute off a free kick for a 3-0 advantage which would be the final score.
