HOW IT HAPPENED
Bellarmine controlled the match in the early minutes, but Lipscomb settled in and got its first good attack of the evening in the 5' minute when the Bisons earned the first corner of the match, but the resulting set piece ultimately amounted to nothing.
The Knights had a couple of looks from set pieces in front of goal, but the Lipscomb defense held strong and began to find more of the ball.
In the 37' minute, the Bisons launched a promising attack up the right side that resulted in the ball at the feet of
Kubah Appiah. His shot, however, was high of frame and the match remained scoreless.
In the 40' minute, Bellarmine was initially awarded a penalty kick because of a Lipscomb handball in the box. However, after discussion with the center official, the call was reversed and play resumed.
The final five minutes of the first frame were controlled by the Bisons, but the final product continued to elude Lipscomb and the match remained scoreless at the halftime whistle.
Bellarmine took the lead just minutes into the second half with a strike in the 68' minute after a long throw in for a 1-0 advantage.
Lipscomb took some time to settle back into the match, but began to find the game again and had a few dangerous chances in its attacking third. Bellarmine, however, took advantage of Lipscomb numbers forward and scored another in the 51' minute for a 2-0 lead.
Bellarmine took advantage of another set piece for its third goal of the night in the 73' minute when a corner kick found the back of the net to put the Bisons behind 3-0.
Lipscomb played the final portion of the match mostly in its attacking third, but couldn't find the back of the net to fall 3-0 at Bellarmine to open ASUN play.
