Volleyball Falls in Sunday Match to Lions

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Lipscomb University Volleyball team suffered a sweep by the hands of the University of North Alabama to wrap up a weekend road trip, Sunday afternoon from the CB&S Bank Arena.

Final Score: North Alabama 3, Lipscomb 0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-20)
Location: Florence, Alabama (CB&S Bank Arena)
Records: Lipscomb (4-8, 0-2), North Alabama (8-7, 2-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions got out to a fast start with a 9-2 lead thanks in part to two aces by Lankford Gurner and an ace by Reese Ricketts.

Lipscomb did make things interesting late in the frame with four of her eight kills by Ella Durham to make it a 23-19 score, but it would not be enough as Reese Ricketts' kill and an attack error by the Bisons helped the Lions earn the first set win, 25-19.

Set two was as even as it could be with 16 ties and seven lead changes. Trailing 16-15, the Bisons flipped the lead back to them after a block by Kelsey Schenck, who also had seven digs in the frame, and a UNA attack error.

The Bisons had multiple attempts to keep the lead, tying the set at 20 and 22, but the Lions won the final three points to win set two, 25-22, and lead the match two sets to none.

North Alabama got the scoring going again and led 7-4 and 14-9 in the third set. Later, UNA earned match point with a Ricketts kill, but three straight points by LUV kept them alive. However, a service error on the ensuing point gave the Lions the conference win.
