Lipscomb Men's Basketball rang in the New Year with a 76-57 victory over Jacksonville to kick off ASUN play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team scored for the first few possessions, but Lipscomb got on the board first when Grant Asman nailed a triple for the early advantage.
Lipscomb went on to hold an 8-6 advantage at the first media timeout.
The intensity was high early as ASUN play got started. Lipscomb's defense forced four Jacksonville turnovers in the first eight minutes of the matchup, which allowed the Bisons to extend out to a 14-8 advantage just before the next timeout on the floor.
Lipscomb's three-point shooting began to heat up, with a pair from Ross Candelino and Titas Sargiunas that helped Lipscomb further extend to a 29-19 advantage with six minutes left in the half.
After the final media timeout of the half, Lipscomb went on a 6-0 run, capped off by a Kennedy Okpara dunk, getting its lead to 35-21 to force a Jacksonville timeout.
Jacksonville outscored Lipscomb 6-2 in the final three minutes of the frame, but the Bisons held onto a 37-27 lead at the break.
The second half started disjointedly with several whistles in the opening minutes, but Lipscomb continued to lead 47-38 at the first media timeout.
The squads continued to trade buckets over the next several minutes, but Ethan Duncan hit the last basket before the under-12 timeout, a triple, giving the Bisons a 54-41 advantage.
Jacksonville, however, mounted a 9-2 run, cutting the Bisons' lead 56-50, forcing a Lipscomb timeout with 8:39 remaining.
Out of the timeout, Lipscomb scored the next four points, getting back out to a double-digit 60-50 advantage.
Lipscomb continued on a 13-0 run and forced five turnovers during the period, getting out to its largest lead of the night, 69-50, with just over four minutes left in the contest.
The Bisons continued to score at a high clip down the stretch, and started ASUN play with a 76-57 victory over Jacksonville.
