
Women's Basketball Falters Late to Queens

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University Women's Basketball team dropped a 70-66 score to Queens University at Charlotte on Saturday afternoon from Allen Arena.
Final Score: Queens 70, Lipscomb 66

HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams went back-and-forth to open the game. Lipscomb made it a four-point game, 9-5, with six minutes remaining in the first stanza on a second-chance jumper by Maris Zurliene.
Each team shot 5-of-15 in the first period, but at the end of the quarter, Molly Heard connected on a triple to give Lipscomb the 14-13 lead after 10 minutes of play.
Ahead 20-19, the Bisons saw a field goal by Taylor Bowen and a Maris Zurliene three-point play, to lead 25-22 at the media timeout. From there, Lipscomb kept pace from Queens, as Bowen's 3-point play made it a 31-27 lead at the half.
The Bisons came out the locker room strong, swelling a four-point halftime lead to eight thanks to a 7-3 run that saw Hannah Richardson, Zurliene and Heard all score in the rally. Heard cleaned up the offensive glass and scored a second-chance to make it a 38-30 lead with eight minutes left in the third.
However, the Royals used a 12-2 run of their own to reclaim the lead, but Richardson's 3-pointer with 1:47 left in the period helped the Bisons take a 49-46 lead after three quarters.
Unfortunately for the Bisons, the Royals started the final period with a 10-2 run to flip the score in their favor, 57-51, at the 7:47 mark.
That run would give Queens the lead for good, as the visitors used a 24-17 final period thanks to 8-of-13 from the floor.
KEY STATISTICS
Molly Heard led all scorers with a season-high 28 points on 8-of-19 shooting, including 8-of-10 from the charity stripe. The senior added eight rebounds and three blocks.
Maris Zurliene chipped in 13 points with four rebounds, while Taylor Bowen posted 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
