COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb University Baseball team could not record the counter punch late in the game at Tennessee Technological University, as the Golden Eagles defeated the Bisons, 7-5, Tuesday evening inside Bush Stadium.
Final Score: Tennessee Tech 7, Lipscomb 5
Location: Cookeville, Tennessee (Bush Stadium)
Records: Lipscomb (2-2), Tennessee Tech (1-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite two quick strikeouts by starter Garrett Holpuch, the Bisons posted back-to-back singles to keep the inning alive.
After
Cam Pruitt laced a knock up the middle and later taking second on a wild pitch, he used his wheels to score from second on a high chopper off
Keaton Mahan's bat to score on the infield hit to get the Bisons on the board first.
In the fourth, the Bisons made it a 3-0 lead on an RBI groundout by
Brady Miller and a dropped pop-up by the Golden Eagles that saw
Hutson Miles score.
Despite TTU chipping away with a run in the bottom half of the inning with an RBi double by Owen Lee, Lipscomb got the run back in the top of the fifth with an RBI double by
Danny Ramirez.
Trailing 4-1, the Golden Eagles used a three-run shot from Landon Semlser to even the game at four runs apiece through five innings.
Tennessee Tech claimed the lead in the sixth, cashing in a lead-off walk by Nash Crowell.
However, in the seventh, the Bisons pulled even thanks to a
Damion Kenealy Jr. RBI double, but Smelser launched his second homer of the game, a two-run shot, to lead 7-5 after seven innings.
The Bisons, who left 16 runners on base, could not score any runs the rest of the way after leaving the bases loaded in the eighth and stranded two runners in the ninth.
