Baseball Powers Past Rockets to Earn Series Split

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University Baseball team prevailed from a slow start in the series by earning a split with the University of Toledo with a 13-5 victory on Monday afternoon from Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.

Final Score: Lipscomb 13, Toledo 5
Location: Nashville, Tennessee (Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium)
Records: Lipscomb (6-5), Toledo (3-8)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Toledo got on the board without the benefit of a hit in the second inning with a dropped fly error by Lipscomb.

In the bottom of the second, the Bisons took advantage of back-to-back knocks by Blake Carter and Kai Holm. After a strikeout, back-to-back walks by Cam Pruitt and Brady Miller started the merry-go-round to even the score at a run apiece.

Toledo picked up four runs in the fourth with two, two-run doubles to lead 5-1, but Lipscomb responded with four runs of their own. Putting together five straight singles, Miller, Hutson Miles and Aaron Stelogeannis all drove in RBIs on their knocks.

The Bisons tied it after the Rockets corked a wild pitch.

All even at five in the top of the fifth, Ryan Kutz used a 5-3 inning-ending double play to get out of the jam and put a zero on the board.

Lipscomb took a 6-5 lead on another wild pitch, and the floodgates opened from there. After another Toledo wild pitch that saw Brock Beddingfield score, Damion Kenealy Jr. drove in one on a base knock, and Carter followed with a two-run hit to make it a 10-5 score.

The Bisons added three runs in the eighth on two singles by Holm and Miller.
