CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – After Austin Peay State University took both series last season, and with each team winning a game in the first two games of the first series of 2026, the Lipscomb University Baseball team dropped 19 runs on the Governors, as the Bisons earned the 19-5 victory on Sunday afternoon from Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons got on the board first with a
Keaton Mahan RBI groundout in the top half of the opening frame.
After a clean bottom of the first by
Caden Shanks, the Bisons kept the foot on the gas pedal with a two-run knock by
Kai Holm to left center to extend the lead to 3-0.
APSU got two runs in the second and third on a pair of two-run homers by Cole Johnson and Zion Taylor to flip the score to 4-3 after three innings.
The lead didn't stay in Austin Peay's favor long, as Lipscomb took advantage of a fielding error to start a three-run rally. With two on, Holm posted his third hit of the gam ewiht an RBI single to right field to even the game at four runs apiece.
Two batters later,
Keaton Mahan gave the Bisons the lead for good with his two-run single to make it 6-4.
After a fifth inning run to make it 7-4, the wheels fell off both on the mound and on defense for the Governors. Sending 15 batters to the Bisons put the game away with an 11-run inning.
Damion Kenealy Jr. and
Simon Scharff both had RBI doubles in the inning, and
Cam Pruitt capped off the frame with a three-run homer to lead 18-4.
HERD NOTES
The 19 runs are the most in a game for the Bisons since they scored 21 against North Florida in 2024.
Against Austin Peay, the Bisons matched their third-highest run total against the Governors all-time. They also had 19 on April 20, 1979 in Nashville. The 1979 season was the second NAIA World Series Championship for Lipscomb in three seasons.
Since the two teams have been conference foes in Lipscomb's Division I era, the 38 runs scored in the three-game series marks the second-highest, missing 39 set in 2023, also in Clarksville.
