NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University Baseball team secured a regular season sweep of Belmont University with a 4-1 win over the Bruins on Tuesday afternoon from E.S. Rose Park.
Final Score: Lipscomb 4, Belmont 1
Location: Nashville, Tennessee (E.S. Rose Park)
Records: Lipscomb (11-11), Belmont (8-17)
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a scoreless battle through the first three frames, as freshman
Cody Underwood faced two batters over the minimum. In the first, Underwood battled through traffic on the base paths, as he got Cavan McMeans to ground into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play to escape the jam.
For Belmont, starter Andrew Perry breezed through the Lipscomb lineup through the first three innings. However, in the fourth, as the Bisons were taking their second look off the Bruins starter, an infield hit by
Kai Holm and an
Aaron Stelogeannis double put runners at second and third quickly.
Two batters later, a sac fly by
Cam Pruitt got the visitors on the scoreboard first.
Danny Ramirez followed with a base knock to right field that saw Stelogeannis score from second to make it a 2-0 lead.
However, the Bruins got a run back in the bottom half of the fourth with a solo shot by Mike Sprockett to cut the Bisons lead in half, 2-1.
The Bisons got the run back in the sixth inning thanks to Pruitt, who drove his second RBI of the game with a base hit.
In the eighth, Lipscomb added a key insurance run, as Stelogeannis scored his third run of the contest on a wild pitch to extend their lead to 4-1.
From there, the bullpen work of
Mack Mabrey and
Kaleb Kantola shut down the Bruins offense, as the duo posted four shutout innings, allowing one hit.
