Bisons Split Squads for Strong Showing at Lee and Tennessee Invitationals

CLEVELAND, TN & KNOXVILLE, TN- Lipscomb Track & Field competed in a split-squad weekend on April 11–12, with distance athletes traveling to Cleveland, Tennessee for the Lee Invitational while the remainder of the squad competed at the Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville. The Bisons turned in a strong weekend across both meets, highlighted by event wins, records, personal bests, and multiple podium finishes.

At the Lee Invitational, Lipscomb's distance group delivered a dominant performance, headlined by event victories and record-breaking efforts. Joe Ponter captured first place in the men's 5000m with a personal-best time of 14:10.85, leading a strong showing from the men's distance squad.

On the women's side, Aly Negovetich delivered one of the top performances of the weekend, winning the 10,000m in 34:23.60. Her time set a new Lee meet record, marked a personal best, and currently ranks among the top times in Division I this season. Abigail Horevay added another podium finish in the event, placing third with a personal-best time of 34:42.18.

Harley Kletz also earned a podium finish for the Bisons, placing third in the women's 5000m, while Andy Stohr and Connor Sarkovics competed in the men's 10,000m to round out Friday's action.

At the Tennessee Invitational, Lipscomb saw strong performances across sprints, hurdles, middle distance, and relays over two days of competition.

In the hurdles, KeShawn Allen led the way with a third-place finish in the men's 110m hurdles, running a personal-best 14.08. Allen also added a strong performance in the 400m hurdles, clocking a personal-best 55.14. On the women's side, Regan Watts advanced to the finals in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best 14.09 in the prelims.

The sprint group showed depth throughout the weekend, led by Joel Nimoh's 10.61 in the men's 100m and 21.64 in the 200m. Emery Eckert and Wessel Vandernest added solid performances in both sprint events, while Aden Bryan and the sprint group combined for a strong showing in the relays.

In the middle-distance events, Linda Perez led the women with a second-place finish in the 800m (2:10.84), while Bethany Wright added a personal-best 2:13.62. On the men's side, Gavin Bacus ran a personal-best 1:52.11 to lead the group.

The distance crew also impressed in Knoxville, highlighted by Matilda Cole's first-place finish in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:25.87.

Relay performances capped the weekend, as the men's 4x100m squad ran a season-best 41.36, while the women's 4x100m team clocked 47.38. The women's 4x400m relay added a strong 3:54.02 performance to close out the meet.
