LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Lipscomb University Baseball team stormed out to a 4-0 lead early en route to a 9-4 victory over Bellarmine University to open its fourth straight Atlantic Sun Conference Gold Division series with a win.
Final Score: Lipscomb 9, Bellarmine 4
Location: Louisville, Kentucky (Knights Field)
Records: Lipscomb (14-12, 7-3), Bellarmine (11-17, 4-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Cam Pruitt started the Lipscomb scoring in the first inning. Following a
Brady Miller single and
Kai Holm reaching on a hit by pitch, Pruitt send a fly ball down the right field line to put the good guys out in front first.
In the second, with a runner on base,
Jordan Thomas launched a home trun to right field for his fourth bomb of the season to make it a 3-0 lead.
Three batters later, Miller made it a 4-0 score with his RBI single.
Bellarmine answered with two runs in their half of the second inning. However,
Aaron Stelogeannis got one of the back on an infield hit that saw
Alejandro Ludeiro score on the play.
In the sixth, after
Alexander Llinas got two quick outs on a groundout and a called third strike, back-to-back four-pitch walks put runners on first and second base quickly. Despite the Knights scoring a run in the inning to inch closer, 5-3, Sawyer Pace ended the threat with a strikeout.
In the seventh, the Bisons got the run back and then some. After
Cam Pruitt scored Stelogeannis on a triple,
Keaton Mahan responded with a triple of his own to make it an 8-3 lead.
In the ninth, leading 8-4, a lead-off homer by Stelogeannis was enough insurance to seal the victory.
