VALDOSTA, Ga. – Lipscomb Men's Golf sits in fourth place, just four strokes back of first place, after the first round of the ASUN Championship. The Bisons shot a 286 (-2) on the day and sat atop the leaderboard for much of the day.
Minas Manias led the way for Lipscomb with a 68 (-4) on the day. Manias got off to a flying start, going (-4) through his first four holes to sit at the top of the field. After the turn, he had his first bogey of the day on 10, but birdied three of his next four holes. After pars on 15 and 16, he was (-6). However, bogeys on his final two holes saw him finish at (-4) and fourth in the field. Manias' seven birdies were the most of any golfer on the day.
Ciaran Murphy and
Alexander Moeldrup also put in solid scores for the Purple and Gold, both going an even 72 to sit tied for 19
th. Murphy was connecting with the ball well over his first nine holes. His day started off hot with a birdie on the first hole to set the tone. After going even over the next three holes, a double bogey on five set him back a bit, but he quickly recovered with a birdie on six and Lipscomb's only eagle of the day on the par 4 number seven. His eagle was one of three on the day throughout the entire field. Two more pars saw him at 34 (-2) at the turn. His back nine proved to be more difficult with three bogeys and a birdie to ultimately finish at 72 (E).
Moeldrup also set the tone early with a birdie on the first hole. He went (-3) over his next seven holes with three more birdies. A bogey on nine had him at 33 (-3) after the front nine and near the top of the leaderboard. He would have just one more birdie over the final nine holes to go along with two bogeys and a double bogey to finish at 72 (E) on the day.
Toby Bishop rounded out Lipscomb's team scoring with a 74 (+2), which has him in 36
th place. His day started off slow with back-to-back bogeys on one and two, but he quickly found his footing with three birdies and four pars over the next seven holes. After being (-1) through the front portion of the course, he went (+3) over the back nine to ultimately score a 74 in his first round of competition.
Rio Saigal rounded things out for the Bisons with a 75 (+3) and sits in 42
nd place. He struggled out of the gate, going (+2) over the first nine holes. His back nine was better, going (+1) in his final nine holes to give him momentum heading into the next round of competition.
Round two at Kinderlou Forest GC will begin on Wednesday, April 22. Saigal will tee off at 7:00 a.m. CT with the Bisons going off in 10-minute increments ending with
Minas Manias at 7:40 a.m. CT.
