Women’s Basketball Recognized on WBCA Team Academic Award for Seventh Straight Year; Ranked 23rd in Division I

ATLANTA – The Lipscomb University Women's Basketball team was honored for the seventh straight year on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Academic Top 25, announced on Tuesday (July 21) by the WBCA.
The Bisons are 23rd in the listing, joining Toledo with a team grade point average of 3.664. After earning special mention honors the last two years, Lipscomb is back in the top 25 for the first time since 2023.
After posting a fall team GPA of 3.56, they followed up with a 3.77 average during the spring semester.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes college women's basketball teams across the nation in their respective divisions that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. A team must have a combined GPA of 3.0 or better and be nominated by its head coach who must be a member of the WBCA to be recognized. The 2025-26 season is the 31st in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
The Bisons earned the award for the seventh straight season, all under head coach Lauren Sumski.
Since 2010, the Bisons have been listed nine times (2010-11-20-21-22-23-24-25-26). Seven of the nine listings have seen Lipscomb as one of the top 25 teams in Division I.
"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The 119 ranked teams we honor this year across all five collegiate membership divisions strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!"
The 2026-27 makeup Atlantic Sun Conference teams saw Lipscomb as the lone representative in the top 25 and on the list as a whole. Former member West Georgia, now in the United Athletic Conference, was listed as a Special Mention.
